City of Birmingham Fire Station No. 18

CHASM Architecture served as Design Architect in collaboration with Architect of Record, Dorsey Architects, on a new Fire Station for the City of Birmingham.

The new 9,463 square foot facility will replace the station that was destroyed during the fatal tornadoes of April 27, 2011. The new $2 Million, Pratt City Fire Station No. 18, consists of three bays for fire trucks and emergency vehicles, a seven-unit dormitory, day-room, classroom, kitchen, an outside patio and storage space. The project also includes a safe room to withstand future storms and is constructed to FEMA 361 standards. The rear entry drive to the vehicle bays reduces the traffic along Dugan Avenue and provides the community with additional relief during non-emergency tours.
