McDonogh 42 Elementary School – Historic Renovation & Addition
McDonogh 42 Elementary School is an existing Pre-K through 8th Grade currently operated by the Treme Charter School Association.
Located in the 7th Ward neighborhood in New Orleans, the three-building campus occupies a full city block. In the aftermath of Katrina in 2005, the property sustained an estimated three to six feet of flooding. The design team was commissioned by the State of Louisiana Department of Education, Recovery School District in association with Jacobs/CSRS Program Management to provide design services for a complete renovation of the school. A small addition to the school was added as a cafeteria and multi-purpose space. In collaboration with Eskew+Dumez+Ripple, CHASM Architecture was responsible for the documentation of existing conditions, including assessing architectural features to identify the historical significance, documentation of all existing conditions and the completion of the entire Building Information Model (BIM) of the existing campus.
